More than 4,200 new cases have been announced by Health Minister Christine Elliot, with 1,218 cases are found in Toronto. Hospitals are also experiencing a surge in ICU admissions due to the pandemic.
As the province announced the second-highest amount of daily new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, health officials have ordered most hospitals to limit elective surgeries starting Monday.
The decision to reduce all elective surgeries and non-emergency operations might well significantly affect the backlog.
According to Anthony Dale, president of the Ontario Hospital Association, there will be 3,000 COVID newly diagnosed cases by the end of April. However, this is only if no additional public health measures are taken.
Officials from the Department of Public Health have issued a warning about new mutations that are more infectious and possibly deadly. In the race against vaccination, the more recent version had an advantage. Hospitals may also be directed to redistribute personnel and resources to disaster-stricken areas.
There are currently 11,492 cases of the UK coronavirus variant and 133 cases of the Brazilian coronavirus variant in Ontario. Last week, the province’s government hit the stay-at-home order button once more, returning the region to a state of lockdown.
