The Crystal Bridges Museum Arkansas confirmed recently that it is preparing an expansion that will include considerably more space for displaying its collection as well as learning, cultural programs, and social events. The expansion will be supervised by Moishe Safdie, the museum’s original designer.
The project will add nearly 100,000 square feet to the museum’s pavilion complex. These will include concrete blocks, red cedar belts, and copper panels that respond to light and moisture in a vegetated Ozark environment.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2022 and be completed in 2024, according to plans. The museum plans to finish a redesigned main lobby and atrium next couple of weeks. Also, a new circular outdoor event plaza will be built to accommodate outdoor community events.
Since its launch in 2011, Crystal Bridges has more than doubled its collection and aid in the economic growth of Northwest Arkansas.
The museum has recently sought more works by women and people of color. Since its opening in 2011, the museum claims to have received more than five million visitors from all across the country.
