Come support fire fighters at street dance

The Thorold Volunteer Firefighters will hold their annual street dance this Saturday, July 23, starting at 7 pm at Station 1 on Towpath Street.

The event happens rain or shine and will support the Thorold Amateur Athletic Association, individual sports teams, the Thorold murals project and Community Care.

There is one change from previous years - only those 19 and older will be admitted, said organizer Craig Reid.

"It's a true community event," he said. "It attracts the people of Thorold and they come together. It's a celebration of summer and a celebration of our community. It's a way of getting in touch with each other...almost like a live Facebook."

In fact, those who want to RSVP can find a group devoted to the event on the social networking site.

Rock Vegas, a cover band, will play. Hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, pop and water will be sold along with alcohol.

Reid predicted the crowd will start to build around 9 or 10 pm. The event runs until 1 am Sunday. There will be a $1,000 draw. Second prize is a night for two at the Keefer Mansion Inn. Sponsors include Thorold Foodland, Keefer Mansion Inn, molson and Kittling Ridge as alcohol supplier.

The Port Robinson firefighters held their street dance last Saturday, August 16.
